Trip to Doyang: 6th Semester (Batch of 2019)

THE DOYANG DIARY
By Senchumthung E Patton (CR)

On the beautiful morning of 8th April 2022, the 6th semester students (Batch of 2019) of KROS College, embarked on an educational trip to the Doyang river, which is known as one of the key rivers of Nagaland. It is situated in the southern boundary of Nagaland and originates from the Japfü Hill near the southern slope of Mao in Manipur which moves in a southwest direction passing through Kohima district and flows northward into Zunheboto and Wokha district. It passes through a great part of the Wokha district and flows in the southwest direction towards Dhansiri in Sibsagar, district of Assam. The trip was collectively organized by the batch of 2019 and was led by an Assistant Professor from the department of English, Miss Noyingbeni T Erui, accompanied by the class representative of the 6th semester along with a total number of 26 students.
At 6:00 AM on 8th April 2022, the bus on which we were to travel arrived and following all the instructions provided we remained calm and at around 7:00 AM, we moved out from Kohima following our tight schedule to our long-awaited destination. We travelled for approximately two hours before reaching Wokha, which was followed by a heavy meal and a few minutes of rest before moving out again. We took another two and a half hours to reach the beautiful resort we had booked for a night stay, the SBRLY Getaway and after which we rested for another twenty minutes before we visited the Doyang Tourist Resort, a place which is believed to provide one of the most majestic views one can witness. The view did not disappoint and thousands of pictures and memories were captured.

The blissful night of 8th April will be remembered by many. Dominated by the profound
inquisitiveness, I glanced toward the valleys and the peaceful and calm yet dangerous waters
of Doyang. Stories of ghosts and ghouls, screams of terrors from the pranks that were played, quarrels and fights about who gets the best-looking tent and the songs that were sung from the deepest part of one’s conscious heart were heard and yet, my ears only long for the song Sanctuary by Charles Esten & Maisy sang delightfully, exquisitely and gracefully by
Miss Noying, making us precisely and subtly capture a moment that will forever live and stay in the hearts of those who got to listen to her sing.
As the night crept in like a thief ready to steal away this moment from us, ultimately, we had no power to fight against it as our energy had been completely drained from all the hours of travel, so we gave up the fight against time and let rest seep into our body; the soul and mind both fell asleep instantly. The next morning, we were in for a surprise when heaven poured down rain which seeped in and drenched our blankets and kept our bodies cold. Yet almost everybody was up by seven-thirty in the morning in an enthusiastic and energetic mood and by nine we were done with our brunch, ready for our next adventure.

As the time of our stay in Doyang lessened, we were split into two groups as we waited patiently for our respective turns to ride the ferry. It was the most exciting part of the trip for me and my fellow peers as our faces were beaming with uncontrollable joy and excitement. After the ferry ride, we picked up our bags ready to head back home.

Our trip was made more memorable by the valuable participation and cooperation of the students as well as the mentor whether it was about cleaning the environment or playing amusing and unique games which made each of our bonds deeper and stronger. The expected outcome of the tour was not only to understand the environment around our
destination but also to interact with each other as it would play a major part in our personality development. This trip has significantly played an important role and has provided an integral part of teaching and learning, both academically and otherwise.

Along our way home, we sang our hearts out before our minds were mingled with sad thoughts as our journey was reaching its end. Having accomplished a lovely, yet another souvenir to our box of memories, we disappeared into the night one by one.
